We never thought we would be parents of a special needs child and the journey has been both devastating and fulfilling, all at the same time.  We had no idea Cameron was infected with CMV until he was born at 35 weeks. The doctors told us that he would most likely not be able to walk, talk or learn, but sixteen years later, here is our beautiful little boy, growing up.  He cannot talk nor hear very well, he has moderate/severe hearing loss in both ears. He has been able to walk a little bit. He certainly has the ability to learn, especially how to get out of things he doesn’t want to do.

There are many days I wonder what Cameron would be like had he not been infected with congenital CMV, what his voice would sound like when he talked and said “I love you Mom”, if he would have athletic, artistic, or both.  However, Cameron has added so much to our family and we celebrate him every day.
