What happens after your child receives a diagnosis of cCMV?

If your baby’s CMV test is positive, your pediatrician will talk with you about additional testing or medication, putting together a team of health care providers and family support.

Hearing loss caused by cCMV may be present at birth, or may develop months or years later. Organizations that support children who are deaf or hard of hearing and their families include:

CHILD DEVELOPMENT RESOURCES

Services are available to support your child’s development. If your doctor or child care provider is not able to connect you, you can reach out yourself. A doctor’s referral is not necessary.

  • If your child is under 3 years old, contact Arizona’s Early Intervention Program (AZEIP) and say: “I have concerns about my child’s development and I would like to have my child evaluated to find out if he/she is eligible for early intervention services.” Online referral is available here.

  • If your child is 3 years old or older, call any local public elementary school (even if your child does not go to school there) and say: “I have concerns about my child’s development and I would like to have my child evaluated through the school system for preschool special education services.” This service is provided through AZ FIND.
